WE’RE GOING PLACES

Dear Parents:

Below you will find most of the answers to the questions you may have concerning the Pittsburgh DancExplosion Student Production to be held May 30, 2010 at the Kean Theatre ( St. Barnabas Assisted Living Campus) in Gibsonia.  There is bound to be some confusion, however, with everyone’s cooperation, the system used will keep this confusion to a minimum.

Show call time is necessary and mandatory for the performer to get the feel of the stage, learn where entrances and exits are and to find where dressing rooms and bathrooms are located.

The performance will be held at the Kean Theatre on the St. Barnabas Campus (directions included). There will be no classes on Saturday, May 29th.

This is so the staff may complete preparations for the show.

The show is approximately 1 ½ -2 hours long including intermission.

Tickets will be on sale beginning Saturday, May 15th through Thursday, May 27th. Tickets can be purchased once the dancer’s account has been paid in full for the season. ALL SEATS ARE RESERVED, ASSIGNED AND SEATING IS LIMITED. All seats in the theatre provide ample viewing but it is suggested that you purchase your tickets early for optimal seating. Tickets for the performance will be $10. Anyone requiring a seat must purchase a ticket. Babies can sit in the lap of a parent but please be considerate of your fellow audience members when dealing with your young children. Tickets can be purchased at the door the evening of the performance for $12 (seats cannot be selected at this time).

  1. ENSEMBLE (competitive dancers only) must report directly backstage to their designated dressing room at 2:00 pm.  A pre-show run through will begin at 2:30 pm immediately following group warm-up.  Any other student that would like to participate in this warm-up is invited, however, guests will  not be allowed into the theatre until 30 minutes prior to show time.

  2. 2. DANCERS (everyone not in ensemble) must report to the theatre by 2:30 pm. They will be taken to their dressing rooms by a senior dancer. Parents will not be allowed in the backstage or dressing rooms.  Doors will open to the public at 3:00 pm with a prompt 3:30 pm show start time.

  3. Absolutely no food or drinks (bottled water only) or gum/candies are allowed in the theatre or dressing room areas. Please remember to feed your dancer before arrival time. PDE will provide snacks for the dancers.

  4. Write last names (on masking tape) and put in every piece of costuming and in shoes to help prevent mix-ups. It is required that dancers arrive dressed in their first costume, makeup applied and hair complete.  A show lineup will be posted the final week of lessons. Be sure to check the bulletin board.

  5. Fix all dancers hair and makeup before coming to the theatre. All classes except tumbling and ensemble can wear hair down  with bangs pulled back. Use only plain barrettes and bobby pins and hairspray heavily. NO BANGS please! We want to see those beautiful faces. Tumbling students should wear hair in a low ponytail and ensemble as discussed.

  6. Apply makeup at home. Bright dark pink/peach lipstick on everyone. Eye shadows should be in natural tones (pinks, browns or lavenders-definitely no blue or green shadow) worn with mascara. A rose or peach color blush on the cheekbones must be worn as well. The strong stage lights wash out the faces that do not have sufficient makeup. Senior students may be asked to correct the makeup of younger students. Ensemble makeup as discussed.

  7. No jewelry of any kind. Please do not even wear or bring to the theatre.

  8. Dancers-please leave game boys, ipods and cell phones at home. We will not be responsible for lost items.

  9. Clear finger and nail polish only.

10.Be sure shoes have been spray painted as previously communicated  for a uniform appearance.

11.No panties!!! They hang out and show under tights and costumes. Be sure to cut any tags out of costumes. Cut don’t tear- you’ll rip the seams of the costume.

12.Finale attire will be the recital t-shirt (distributed when tickets purchased)  with a pair of shorts and tennis shoes. Any complimenting shorts/shoes are acceptable.

13.ONLY BACKSTAGE HELPERS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BACKSTAGE/DRESSING AREAS. TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE POT!

14.Parents/guest please do not go into the dressing areas or roam the hallways of St. Barnabas. This is the residents’ home and we need to be respectful of this request. All dancers must remain in the dressing areas until the end of the show.  At that time  you dancer will be escorted to get  her/his things and  brought back to the family members in the theatre. In case of emergency, please see Michelle only. She is generally in the back of the theatre during the performance.

REMEMBER;  NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOTAPING. ALL FAMILIES WILL BE GETTING A DVD OF THE PERFORMANCE. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE EVENT.

Other things to remember:

Ÿ  All the kids have worked hard for this presentation and all deserve your applause.

Ÿ  Enter and exit the theatre between numbers (this will be fast -so hurry)

Ÿ  Keep talking to a minimum and turn cell phones to stun/vibrate/silence during the performance.

Ÿ  St. Barnabas is the home of many seniors. Please respect their home.

Thanks for your help, consideration and support in Pittsburgh DancExplosion and the student production We‘re Going Places. If you have further questions, please speak to Michelle or Amy directly.
