DANCE RECITAL INFO SHEET!!!! Please read.....

Below you will find most of the answers to the questions you may have concerning the DancExplosion Arts Center Student Production to be held June 26, 2011 at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center on Cemetery Lane. There is bound to be some confusion, however, with everyone’s cooperation, the system used will keep this confusion to a minimum.

RECITAL WEEK SCHEDULE

We have modified the week of classes leading up to the recital so that each class may dance in front of their peers. This will be a great time to adjust to an audience, prepare for an amazing performance, and run through the finale. Monday & Saturday Intro to Dance students will not be required to stay the entire rehearsal.

Monday, June 20: 5:00-7:00 All Monday Classes Recital Run through

Wednesday, June 22: 5:00-7:00 All Wednesday Classes Recital Run Through with Saturday Intro to Dance Class attending from 6:00-6:45. Teen & Senior company plan to stay until 7:45.

There will be NO regularly scheduled CLASSES on SATURDAY, JUNE 25 so that the staff may finish the final details and preparations for the performance. However, the recreational, non-recital Tumble & Bounce class will still have their class at the regular time.

Babies under the age of 2 years can sit in the lap of a parent but please be considerate of your fellow audience members when dealing with your young children. Tickets can be purchased at the door the evening of the performance for $12 (seats cannot be selected at this time).

1. COMPANY DANCERS (competitive dancers only) must report directly backstage to their designated dressing room at 12:00 pm. A pre-show run through will begin at 12:15 pm immediately following group warm-up. Any other Level 2 or tumbling student that would like to participate in this warm-up is invited, however, guests will not be allowed into the theatre until 30 minutes prior to show time.

2. DANCERS must report to the theatre by 1:00 pm. Please have dancers dressed in their 1st costume. They will be escorted to the appropriate dressing room by a senior dancer. Parents will not be allowed in the backstage or dressing rooms. Doors will open to the public at 1:30 pm with a prompt 2:00 pm show start time.

3. Absolutely no food or drinks (bottled water only) or gum/candies are allowed in the theatre or dressing room areas. Please remember to feed your dancer before arrival time.

4. Write last names (on masking tape) and put in every piece of costuming and in shoes to help prevent mix-ups. It is required that dancers arrive dressed in their first costume, makeup applied and hair complete. A show lineup will be posted the final week of lessons. Be sure to check the bulletin board.

5. Fix all dancers hair and makeup before coming to the theatre.

· Intro to Dance, Kinderdance, & Petite Dancers: Hair ½ up, clean & polish with no bangs.

· Level 1, 2, & 3 Dancers: high, straight hair pony tail with small bang poof.

· Use only plain barrettes and bobby pins and hairspray heavily. NO BANGS please! We want to see those beautiful faces.

6. Apply makeup at home. Bright dark pink/peach lipstick on everyone. Eye shadows should be in natural tones (pinks, browns or lavenders-definitely no blue or green shadow) worn with mascara. A rose or peach color blush on the cheekbones must be worn as well. The strong stage lights wash out the faces that do not have sufficient makeup. Senior students may be asked to correct the makeup of younger students. Company makeup as discussed.

7. No jewelry of any kind. Please do not even wear or bring to the theatre.

8. Dancers-please leave game boys, ipods and cell phones at home. We will not be responsible for lost items.

9. Clear finger and nail polish only.

10. Be sure shoes have been spray painted as previously communicated for a uniform appearance.

11. No panties!!! They hang out and show under tights and costumes. Be sure to cut any tags out of costumes. Cut don’t tear- you’ll rip the seams of the costume.

12. Finale attire will be the recital t-shirt (distributed when tickets purchased) with a pair of shorts and tennis shoes. Any complimenting shorts/shoes are acceptable.

13. ONLY BACKSTAGE HELPERS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE BACKSTAGE/DRESSING AREAS. TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE POT!

14. Parents/guest please do not go into the dressing areas or roam the hallways of the Masonic Center. All dancers must remain in the dressing areas until the end of the show. At that time, your dancer will be escorted to get her/his things and brought back to the family members in the theatre. In case of emergency, please see Backstage Usher only. He or She is generally in the back of the theatre during the performance.

REMEMBER; NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOTAPING. ALL FAMILIES WILL BE GETTING A DVD OF THE PERFORMANCE created by BROWN PRODUCTIONS. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL FROM THE EVENT.

Ÿ Keep talking to a minimum and turn cell phones to vibrate/silence during the performance.

Ÿ If any student has an older brother that would wish to serve as a seating usher please let the front desk staff now as soon as possible.
